Website

Email addresses submitted on this site are stored only to contact people about Backplane. They are not verified, and no emails are sent today. The site has no analytics or trackers. It uses no cookies except a session cookie for the signup form's CSRF token.

Usage telemetry

Only the Backplane hub, the desktop/server program, sends usage telemetry to backplaneworks.com. The window, web, iOS, and Android clients never send telemetry.

When sharing is on, the hub sends an event kind (install, update, or daily active), UTC date, random install id, sharing state, app version and previous version, release channel, operating system (Linux, macOS, or Windows), CPU architecture, and which client kinds connected that day.

It never sends names, email addresses, file paths, project or thread names, prompts, model names, hostnames, hardware ids, locale, or IP-derived location. Each request carries a send time used only to reject replays; it is checked and not stored, and events keep only the date.

Choices

When you opt out, Backplane sends only install and update counts, with no install id. Those counts cannot be linked to each other or to you. Opt out in Settings in any Backplane client, or use the prompt shown at first run and on update. Resetting the install id in Settings makes past and future data unlinkable. Dev, sandbox, and test builds, and builds without a telemetry key, send nothing.

Storage

This site uses each IP address only in memory for rate limiting, as a daily-salted hash. It never stores or logs those hashes, and its request log has no IP addresses. The hosting provider and its edge proxy may process connection data under their own policies.

Raw telemetry events are kept for 13 months, then reduced to daily counts without install ids. Replay-protection nonces are kept for 15 minutes. Signup addresses are kept until you ask us to remove them.

Contact

Ask about or delete data by opening an issue or messaging @i2cjak on X. For telemetry, include the install id shown in Settings.
